#9 Bobby and Thing: in Chicago nobody gets hired whom nobody sent. Abner Mikva found that out a long time ago (you can Google him and the story).

It's who you know. A conviction doesn't disqualify you for a job in Chicago if you know the right people. This character evidently did.
