#1 Oh, jeez:

The San Francisco Fire Department said one of the girls killed may have been struck by an emergency vehicle, San Mateo County Coroner Robert Foucrault said.

#2 Not a jet problem, must be a pilot problem.

#3 "Our pilots strictly comply with aviation rules," the CEO said.

Right, Cover your ass.

#4 Isn't one of the aviation rules to touch down first on the runway, not the seawall?

#5 According to what I've read the Pilot at the controls had little experience with that jet (777) and never landed it at SFO before and, since this was his first time, the other pilots were assisting / advising.

Earlier Sunday, Hersman [National Transportation Safety Board Chairman] said on CBS' "Face the Nation" that the glide slope system is a ground-based aid that helps pilots stay on course while landing and it has been shut down at the San Francisco airport since June. The pilots, however, were notified before the crash that the system wasn't available.

Obviously its the fault of those EVIL REPUBLICANS and the sequester. (/sarc)

#6 First time for everything. I had lots of personal firsts when I was training as a doc. Of course, the people supervising me made sure I was ready and kept a watchful eye on me.

So if this pilot was doing his first landing of a 777 at SFO, who was in the co-pilot seat? I'd hope it was the most experienced of the other 3 pilots on the plane. Who was it?

#7 Exactly Steve.

I remember my first time in Drivers Ed. Put the car in the ditch. Embarrassing to say the least.

#8 NO MECHANICAL PROBLEM WITH CRASHED JET

There are indications that there was a problem with the nuts holding the wheels.

#11 "There are indications that there was a problem with the nuts holding the wheels."

Makes sense to me, gorb. Wheel nut problems always cause the tail section of the airplane to hit the seawall at the end of the runway, don't they?

/do I really need to?

#12 Wheel nuts can cause a wide variety of otherwise unexplainable problems. ;-)

#13 I think in this case is was the loose nut in the cockpit, not the wheels.

#14 'Wheels' means 'controls', not landing gear....
