#3 Got to remember all senior GO billets are politically selected, ie JCS, CNO, CSoA, etc. Usually, a pro forma nomination that gets Congressional rubber stamp. I suspect with continued PC selections, it's going to actually turn into an act much like SCOTUS nominations after Bork, from once a procedural process to a political showcase.
