#1 I can't get them to rake my leaves or cut my grass or baby sit; they seem to have other things to do.

#2 A friend of formerly temporary daughter's just spent five months working 80-100 hour weeks at Burger King as the sole support of his family while his father was unemployed. His father just found a job, so the young man has backed down to about sixty hours, and is thinking about going back to school for the computer degree he had been working toward, now that he is no longer responsible for making his parents' mortgage payment.

#4 I am praying so, Besoeker. There are lots of good kids out there, who don't deserve the current economy. Trailing daughter #2 did volunteer work instead of getting paying jobs for several years so that she wouldn't compete with those of her friends who truly needed the money. There's a lot of that kind of generosity going on, too.
