#1 I wonder if PAN, the "Christian Democrat" party of Mexico, would send out some pollsters to find out if the typical Mexican would like a return of the death penalty, for particularly heinous crimes. As part of a big law & order push.

While the typical Mexican on the street doesn't care much for capital punishment, most of their objections were because it was used for political purposes, not against really nasty criminals, that Mexico has treated with kid gloves for a long time.

#2 Why give them trials and formal sentences. If they are attacking police headquarters with grenades it is more like an act of war than a crime. This goes way beyond ordinary criminal behavior. Just shoot them and put their heads on pikes outside the town.
