#1 The amazing thing is how China has remained unified despite an utter unwillingness to make even minor changes that would stabilize itself.

Putting things in American terms, China has runaway federalism, with its major regions ignoring the central government and doing a rotten job of managing themselves.

If the central government would not so exclusively focus on the people, and put just a little effort into fixing their broken regional governments, everything would run a lot smoother.

#2 To me, the amazing thing is how Chinese leadership tries to anticipate, instead of ignore, problems.

#3 The rural countryside is little changed. They have not enjoyed the benefits. The cities however will be a problem. They want more of everything. "The amazing thing is how China has remained unified despite an utter unwillingness to make even minor changes that would stabilize itself". The cities will be the problem. The wealthy want to leave now. They have a new problem. Women marry for money. Because there are so few women. Now they divorce get everything of value and marry again. They are looking into new laws to address this issue. Massive social unrest should the economy continue to drop but in the cities. North Korea is a good example. The rice price has gone very high. This when the crop was just harvested. The crop is is being stored by the government. So the rural people are starving now and will this winter. So as in China the rural people are not a concern. Food and coal, will be imported. Money will be spent on military, industry, and world resource agreements. This will keep the people working in the cities and feed them. Money? no problem, they will just print more.

#4 IMO its more correct to say any trouble will be as per national economic expansion widout corresponding decentralization of power, i.e. LIMITED TO NO FREE MARKETS NOR POWER-SHARING.

YEAR 2010 - 2025 [2030? 2050?] > China will be no different that the US + World in being affected by Pert-forecasted LT or protractive economic chaos, whether its labled "GLOBAL RECESSION(S)", "GREAT GREATER DEPRESSION", ... @ETC.
