#1 Two law enforcement officials said investigators were told the man was asked about the smell of smoke in the bathroom and he made a joke that he had been trying to light his shoes — an apparent reference to the 2001 so-called "shoe bomber" Richard Reid.

Middle Eastern guy making jokes about shoe bombers?
Feel free to beat him to a pulp. Tell him it's the "punchline" to his little "joke".

#3 Qatar by the way is a member state of the Arab League, which held its summit last month in Libya.

Libya forced the Swiss embassy to return Swiss citizen and hostage Max Göldi to Libyan custody by threatening to storm that embassy.

According to international law that even the Soviet Union, armed with thousand of nukes respected, the host country's forces may not enter embassy premises without the guest country's permission.

Libya suffered no adverse consequences for this act.

It's funny how international law in practice only affords protection to 'them' but not to 'us.'

#4  he made a joke that he had been trying to light his shoes

One of the last night's topics in the O-Club was how police are treated in places like Mexico, Bahrain and the like, and the attitude taken by their elites when their 'lessers' dare question them.

This was an example.

#5 Not to say it doesn't happen here (can anyone say 'Cambridge'?), but the consequences have a bit more... impact.
