#3 Yeah, time to ~~fire~~ move Holbrooke. He clearly can't work with the Indians any more, he's just poison in the Indian press at this point.

#4 Sad thing is, the Democrats in early 2009 had a number of rising diplomats who could have done this job, and done so quietly. Bambi went with Holbrooke because Holbrooke was a senior bull elephant in the party who was 'due' a big assignment. Bambi didn't want him in the Cabinet so he put Holbrooke into a plum diplomatic post.

Now it's clear that Holbrooke is wrecking the china shop (sorry for the mixed metaphor) and isn't capable of advancing our interests in the region. The Indians can't stand him and the Paks and Afghans know that he can't deliver. He is, therefore, pretty much useless, and arrogant to boot.

But he won't lose his post, at least not until late 2011 when he decides to spend more time with his family, which will be just after Bambi finally realizes that Holbrooke is an anchor that must be cut loose.
