#2 Whoa, I thought the US wasn't supposed to "impose" things! How about this solution: Gaza back to Egypt, West Bank back to Jordan, everyone else keeps their "refugees". Voila!

#3 This is the horrific delusion of the Arab world. They believe that the ONLY reason Israel exists is because it is heavily supported by the US. They cannot tolerate the idea that Israel on its own defeated several Arab armies at the same time.

This self deception is why the Arab world blames the US for its conflict with Israel. If the US would just stop supporting Israel, it would wither away in a few years.

They have so boxed themselves into this belief that it has become central to their zeitgeist. Even the king of Saudi Arabia believes that Israel is just a US puppet. That Obama can just order it about at will.

Because to think otherwise is to admit that Arabs are terribly inferior to Jews.

#4 excellent analysis moose. I concur with one addition: to admit defeat is not only to admit to the unthinkable, but also to admit the invalidation of Islam. Mohammed had assured his followers after each victory that they had won it because Allah had approved of their belief in Him and in His prophet. To admit defeat is to falsify Islam.

The attractiveness of Islamism and Talibanism is that it promises renewed blessing from Allah, and victory in War, by returning to the "purity" of Islam.
