Given the massive level of 'critical' public services that seemingly can't be touched in state and federal government [ie petty bureaucratic empires], we've amply demonstrated any bureaucrat can do that now.

#2 I'm not impressed. I've USED Japanese toilet paper. It's kinda like using the pages of a Sears & Roebuck catalog (yeah, I know that dates me, and also indicates I have a first-hand experience with outhouses. Who cares?).

#5 Ditto Old Patriot, My grandparents lived with a well and no running water, to wash clothes there was an old wringer washer in the wellhouse, it took 12 buckets to fill it, and also yes, My father showed me how to wrinkle Sears Roebuck Catalog pages properly, and remember to replace the plank cover to keep out the chickens, each poop you sprinkled a cupfull of wood ashes to help digest the poop and kill the smell.
