#4 China really ought to look at the vote numbers in our Senate and House before making assumptions about the stupidity of the American voters.

Oh sure, we have to endure Nancy and Harry. But China might want to take a look at the actual vote numbers in order to get a clue about the resolve of the American peoople. Even Bill Clinton didn't have enough ahem... to vote for the Kyoto treaty.

It's a well kept secret but in the end, Nancy and Harry are our servants, not our masters.

Yeah, we will deal with warming. And we will deal with in such a way that even our poorest citizens are warm in a way that your citizen's wish they could be.

Hey Nancy.... go get me a beer.

#5 Carbon Dioxide, it's all these idiot can talk of.
I'm far more concerned with pollutants like perchlorate, TEC, Chlordane and Mercury than I ever was about CO2. The persistent chemicals are going to kill us NOW, not in 50 or 100 years and China must be the worlds absolute worst at dumping them.

#7 China should get together with the South Africans. Build some of those safe pebble-bed nuke reactors and convert china over to nuclear power. Better than a big risky dam, and better than trusting your economy to the stability of the middle east.

Once they've got things working the China/SA axis should build nuclear plants for their allies. Creating an alliance with the third world using nuclear power as the glue could really work for China in the long run, gaining them access to markets and raw materials with minimal friction with the west.

#8 I suspect effective pushback on Chinese pollution will come from the Chinese people themselves as they get tired of breathing and drink power plant and factory effluent. Sure, jobs in the city are nice, but when you start coughing your lungs out...

Expect the Emperor, errr Central Commitee to totally ignore international pressure. They will move in response to internal pressure, but only after the riots are widespread.

#9 The Chicoms are hoping that the US 'falls' under the pressure to reduce it's overall 'Carbon Footprint' lowering and thus slowing the Eagle's military industrial complex that would hedge the Red Dragon's hegemony wishes for the western pacific. I'd rather have 'Truth, Justice, and the American Way...with smog and sea level rising' than stomping in rice patties for new masters in 2050!! Send a one worded decipherable message to the embassy of the PLA..."NUTS?!"
