#1 I bet they will be checking IDs from now on. But who knows? It could just be a gang hit. Interesting they went after Sunnis not US when given the chance.

And they could just as easily have gotten close to an American foot patrol. Armor and machine guns against surprised dismounts is not a pretty thought.

#3 Al-Qaida understands that the "Awakening Councils" are its death knell, so I'm not surprised they went after that patrol. Such patrols are also - at least for now - less well-trained and a much easier target than US forces. I hope we have the resources to start giving these guys some elementary training in deployment and tactics, and give them a better chance of defending themselves from these types of attack. It worked once - they'll try it again.
