#1 About 700,000 Indian soldiers are stationed in Kashmir to combat several militant groups.

Err... actually not.

There are about 340,000 Indian soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir state. Only 80,000 troops are involved in counterinsurgency duty. About 160,000 are assigned to the borders where they defend against several Pak armored corps and the Chinese PLA forces as well as infiltration across the LOC. Another 100,000 sustain the logistics train to the Himalaya.

The J+K State Police actually outnumber the Indian army COIN troops.

#3 The Paks like to think that they tie down 700,000 troops. This figure gets reported all the time.
Also 70,000 dead (another bogus figure).

These numbers are useful for the Pak psyche. The realization that they have radicalized their country for nothing is too terrible to absorb
