#4 I was at an office building in State College, PA this week when a 3-400 lb black bear sauntered into the side yard. Gawking employees who apparently went out for autographs scared it away.

The guy who wrote that ticket was an idiot. I think if I got that ticket I'd tell him to wait right there while I retrieved my log ....

#7 so now we need to add a pile of tie downs to our camping gear list... this is about as stupid as the DNR guy in WA that ticketed the guy that saved a swimmer while crabbing and didn't immedietly record his catch; all the while the dnr clown watched from shore with binoculars. and just 2 weeks ago, Mrs. Ret and I got a warning because we did not occupy a WA state campground spot overnight that we had properly registered. must be something in the water that casues unmitigated stupidity.....(or maybe they are pissed becasue they cannot be real cops and drive their crown vics at high speeds)

#9 The Florida Wildlife Law and Fine Getters had to kill a 250 lb. black bear 2 weeks ago near the center of Tallahassee, got treed behind a WhataBurger on 319. It was a 3 time looooooser. Destroyed it. :<.

#10 It's no joke here in the mountains of East Tennesse when going camping around bears. You really do need to secure food and garbage. Bears learn rather quickly that campers can mean food. Securing things limitsthe contact between bears and people and decreases the possibility of death or serious injury to people or bears. Getting a ticket for not securing the campsite is appropriate. Trust me. You don't want a 300 pound bear in your tent at 2:00 AM. I used to teach a backpacking class and one of the things people were told was keep a sharp knife handy when you go to sleep. Use it to cut your way out the back of your tent if a bear is blocking the front. If you attack the bear it's bad news for the people.
