#1 Look, if you're a cop and you're captured by the Taliban, the "Taliban's leadership would decide their fate". Code for: you're going to die. How do 40 cops get captured, and why would they surrender? Why aren't they going down with guns blazing?

#3 It may be a cross-cultural thing. If the captors were local tribesmen, ransom would be in order. Trouble is, these 'Taliban' are heavily influenced by Arabs.
