#1 "Temporary marriage" is just prostitution, dressed up in language acceptable to Islam. After all, what serious Muslim man would marry a woman who's not a virgin?

I suppose prostitution is a step up from being sold into permanent slavery. Mind you, if the marriage lasts longer than 3 months, then it's simply "shaking up". Which is cheaper. Generally.

#6 As described in the article, this sounds like a way to get around prohibitively expensive dowry and wedding party costs. Also a way a respectable woman can engage in prostitution to support herself. There are a great many widows in Afghanistan with no salable skills, and a great many poor people. I'm glad those who actually want to wed have found a way.

#7 Agree, tw. IIRC a widow can only marry her dead husband's brother. She can't marry anyone else (damaged goods, dontchknow).
