#1 What seems to be going on behind the scenes here is that the US is encouraging Pakistan to assert control over their part of Baluchistan. Traditionally, when the Baluchs are fighting the Paks, their fighters flee to Iran, and visa versa.

So in effect, the US is having the Paks drive the warrior Baluchs into Iran.

Now, if the US intends to fight Iran, it would like the Baluchs in Iran to make a fuss. So I would also expect that US agents are among the Baluchs in Iran, making deals with them and welcoming the Baluch relatives driven out of Pakistan.

The big question is if the US intends to partition Iran after the fight, will it want Iranian Baluchistan to become its own country? It is questionable whether the Baluchs are up to this, so the US might suggest that they be an autonomous enclave still within Iran, but like Montenegro is to Serbia. Sort of a pre-independent state condition.

#2 The more pieces Paki-land (or any other ROPer "country") is brocken into, the less trouble they are.

#3 Pakistan is a fiction and eventually it will divide into a few pieces. Baluchistan, Punjab, and Pashtun areas. If you believe that, as I do, the questions become (a) Can we secure the nukes if this happens (b) Can we keep the pieces from hating us by doing something now (c) Could we prevent a bloodbath by doing something now.

I don't know the answer to the three questions and I'm guessing the US goernment doesn't either so status quo and supporting a semi-friendly dictator is the only choice.

#4 Some pieces belong with Iran (post Mullah regime) (Baloch areas), Afghanistan (Pathan areas) and India (Sindh province).
The rump Pakistan may be just Punjab and nearby regions.
