#1 Inman's got some good points. Hindsight is always clearer, though. Go for the FISA changes now. It seems like it is broken anyway (witness rat / FISA judge jumping ship recently when his obstructionist role was being brought to light).

I trust the Pelosi-types not at all. Pelosi-types (politicians in general) are concerned with themselves first. For them, it is always about 'me'. Ever work with a Senator or Congress-critter? The only way to get their interest or get them to do anything is if you can link it to their own benefit (face time, PR, whatever). Jobs, decency - all else plays a distant third. I'll put my trust in the NSA-types anyday. For them, it is all about US (as in USA for those who haven't had enough coffee yet).

#2 It is significant that, a bare month AFTER 9/11, the Demoncrats were striving to throw a monkey wrench into the national response to terrorism. I won't forget the uneasy feeling that for SEVERAL MONTHS after 9/11 that there were sleeper cells in the USA waiting for the right moment and signal to strike. Only the LACK of the activation of any purported sleeper cells after the "invasion" of Afghanistan assured me that either there were none, or they were not operationally ready. Who knows whether the unauthorized spying by the NSA helped uncover the nascent AlQ cells?
