#1 Army Special Forces Command said Tillman led the lead section of a platoon when the platoon's trailing team came under enemy fire.

It said that while his part of the platoon was out of danger, Tillman maneuvered his team back toward the fray in order to protect the rest of the platoon, and directed gunfire at the enemy. It said he lost his life, but his efforts helped prevent the rest of the platoon from suffering any casualties.

Can't really argue with that award. I wonder how that kid from U-Mass is going to take this one? Maybe the football team will pay him a visit to see what he thinks.

#3 I'm sure all the details will come out in the near future. I'd like to read about them. More importantly, I'd like to see a series of short books for young boys and girls that tell them what kind of man Mr. Tillman was. That would be the best retort to the young twerp from U. Mass I can think of.

#4 God bless that man. I never met him but my son and he studied together at ASU. My son said he had that special quality that you can see and feel when around him. Not as a jock, not as a pro football player, but as a person that completed college in 3.5 years with a near perfect 4.0. My thinking on college sports is for most of the athletes (90 percent??)who do study and apply themselves, college and sports are a character builder. Pat Tillman was a study in character, intellect and courage.

Tillman was the best.

I read several stories about the Okla. State basketball team, how some of those kids were in real trouble before they moved to redneckland. I guess mixing amoungst decent folks will straighten you out fast. And most times leftists and other soft-headed types do not want you to see the rest of this iceberg of reality that 90 percent of 'jocks' are as decent as people can get.

#6 In an interview, the day of the announcement, Tillman's college roommate stated that when the details come out, he just knew "he died trying to save someone else."
