#2 Burma, Myanmar, another British mess. After the Karen fought bravely for the brits in ww1 and 2 they got nothing in return. They were promised a free homogenous state bu that never happened. Even after all of them changed to christianity.

#3 That's right, Stevey. 55 years after Burmese independence, and it's Britain's fault that the Burmese junta are employing 350,000 men in a campaign to crush an army of 5,000 Karen. The Karen did fight with the allies in WWII, when they resisted the Japanese, and Britain shouldn't have reneged on her promise to grant the Karen minority a spearate state upon independence, but things are not necessarily all about what happened a half century ago. I suppose you'll blame the British for the Burmese government's treatment of Daw ~~Aung San Suu Kyi~~ too?

#4 The Burmese Junta (SLORC) is just like North Korea, but without the nuclear reactors. The Karen just want to be left alone in peace, and I support them. By the way, the Shan that Fred mentioned happen to be among the most beautiful people in the world. Absolutely gorgeous! If you've ever met any, you know what I'm talking about. ;-)
