#2 Well, he's alive and can tell us about it. I still shudder everytime I think about the pictures that were floating around on the web a while back of the forest ranger who got partially eaten. He shot the bear with a.38. All that did was piss the bear off. As I recall the guy who brought the bear down put seven 7mm magnum rounds into it. One big freaking bear

#4 If I am hiking in the woods near my home, I always carry a rifle or a shotgun. I shot a grizzley in the heart once, and it ran for 150 yards before it died. Having a sow grizzley on one side of you and the cubs on the other is one of the most frightening experiences I have had in my life.
