#1 The depraved media beasts and their status-seeking murder-apologist followers will simply characterize this as "sectarian strife" or, if the facts become too obvious, as "vigilante action." Whatever interpretation they apply will have to invoke their satanic dogma of moral equivalence at any cost.

#2 Now I suppose that one of Ramsey Clark's left-devil succubus minions will show up and bitch about "demonization."

#3 Good for them. I'd of loved to seen them beating down the local "tough guys".

#4 Great work guys! We have to get some people in there to protect them. The MSM will not even comment on this, simply because it implies that most Iraqi's are good people who do not want to be intimidated by thugs - pure and simple. MSM want us to look bad all the time. Why? I'll never know.

#5 More and more of this is probably starting to happen, just as the number of intelligence tips from Iraqis is increasing. We'll see as much of this in the M$M as we do of innocent U. S. citizens who use legally owned firearms to frustrate the plans of the criminal element.

#6 "vigilante action" is exactly what it is. Good for them! Let the police, the army, and the Coalition forces handle the big stuff, while the little peepul provide for their own defence. This is an important step in asserting their right as citizens to live unthreatened by such scum.

#7 This sort of thing just wouldn't have taken place if there was a strict gun control regime, now would it? Permitting those citizens to defend themselves will undoubtedly lead to more acts of violence. They should learn how not to defend themselves from the British.

#8 #7 what lala land you come from? these people had weapons before april 2003..they have a long tradition of having weapons...strict gun cotrol?? please pull your head out of your ass.
more instances like this and these asshats will think twice before attacking a determined and armed citizenry.
I say more power to them and hope they take a few more of the fanatics out.

#10 I think that this was what was intended when every family was allowed to keep an AK-47 for "self-protection." I love it when a plan comes together.

#11 I think it was something like one AK-47 per family. They had to turn in all the RPGs grenades and such. Handguns I am not sure of. But these are Full Auto capable AK-47 not some export to US type AK-47 simi autos.

#12 IIRC, when vigilantiism was discussed as a hypothetical here in the 'Burg, opinions were divided. Now that it's a reality, has anyone changed their mind?

Personally, I think this rocks. I think, given what the second source on the story said (www.abc.net.au's Mark Willacy) that we will see more. Everyone who was warned not to vote is likely to receive a visit if they disobeyed and voted. The local leader certainly knows his own society and will be expecting the reprisal. I am beyond happy that he ambushed them - and I hope the wounded were given to interrogators who showed no, that's zero, mercy in seeking intel on who sent them.

#13 I disagree that this is vigilantism. They were fired on first.

Vigilantism is when somebody gets the neighbors all riled up and they go find the summbitches watching TV at home and string them up from the lamp posts.

#15 This is the tipping point - the point where things will move forward rapidly toward a hoped-for conclusion. Now that the Iraqi people have decided they'll fight for their own freedom, the "insurgents" and other whackjobs have lost completely. I hope we see more of this. I hope it evolves into a personal militia that guarantees the protection of villages from outside troublemakers. I also hope the people who wish to gain power in Iraq understand that this is also a brake on their desires for unlimited power, and maybe representative government is the best way to go after all. It worked for us, why not for Iraq?

#16 Not to be argumentative, but to make a point, it's not stated in either article who fired first, but implied by the use of "attack"...

They were threatened and the response is up to the tribe or clan leader. This is Arab "honor" at stake, here. As an Arab dealing with other Arabs, he knew what was coming and I'll bet it was an ambush of the asshats. I'm thinking Northfield Raid, as a parallel. He would lose a lot of status and support if he was threatened, attacked, and people were injured because he was only passively prepared.

Just my guess, but it's as good as any other in the face of missing detail, and better matches my understanding of the Arab "honor" game. I'll PayPal him money for more ammo if he'll provide a link.

#17 Maybe I'm misinterpreting the story, but it reads:

Citizens of Al Mudhiryiah (a small town in the "death triangle") were subjected to an attack by several militants today

#18 Hey - no big deal to me. You can get excited if you want, it's your kharma.

And from the second source:
"We understand that last night the insurgents came back to punish the people of al-Mudhariya, but instead of metering out that punishment the villagers fought back and they killed five of the insurgents and wounded eight. They then burnt the insurgents' car. So the people of that village have certainly had enough of the insurgents."

No use of "attack" there...

No big deal, just offering what my understanding would suggest happened as neither story is precise. The tribe will tell it as it pleases them - cuz they won the engagement. The Arabs will tell and retell and read between the lines as it pleases them, as well. Truly, no big deal to me. My impression is only that, my impression.

Only a first-hand account from an honest and neutral source could be trusted for total accuracy in an incident such as this. Just as the MSM has gone into agenda-mode, Arabs have their own way of dealing with each other, the Press, and the truth, you know.
