#1 How does a permanent base look different than a long term base... like 50 years?

#2 That's the point, it doesn't. The US never had any permanent bases in Germany, either. Permanent bases are used by occupation or conquering forces, not friends.

The US, however, as Germany also learned, is a very, very generous friend.

#3 Even the base in Guantanimo wouldn't be considered permanent? I think we have a lease but I'm not sure when it runs up.

#4 It's a perpetual lease; both Cuba and the US have to agree to end it, or the US abandons the base.
