#3 The trouble is that much of the IRGC is "unreliable". While it numbers about 125,000 plus the 90,000 strong Basij militia, the IRGC itself is mostly conscripts, with maybe 2-3 brigades that can be trusted to obey all orders, and the Basij are mostly brownshirts not particularly good in a real fight.

Thus, in most circumstances, the bulk of the IRGC is confined to barracks, with the reliables being shuttled around the country to muscle disloyal minorities. Which is why their airplane disasters really hurt them, because they lose a bunch of their most trusted thugs all at once.

Probably can factor in at last one more brigade - maybe. Thing is, the IRGC also needs to cover Iran's eastern and southeastern borders as well.

The Basij have at least 2 heavily armed brigades, but they're trained to counter civil insurrection.

#5 Lest we fergit, the Mullahs said years ago that they will wage "People's War" on their own soil iff Iran is ever invaded by the West, to include willingness to detonate NucWeaps/Bombs on their own soil, in Iranian Cities + Towns, etc. iff necessary to defeat an invader.

TAKING THE ABOVE + OTHER COLLECTIVELY, + HISTOIRE', IOW THE MULLAHS ARE HINTING THAT FOREIGN POWERS WILL HAVE TO ATTACK + INVADE + OCCUPY IRAN TO STOP IRAN.

ARTIC emphasizes the South China Sea but I'm not convinced Beijing will limit combat only to that region.
