#4 The extended 'out of garrison' mobilization of over five divisions of soldiers, anybody's soldiers... is a very expensive undertaking.

A 'training exercise' can probably now be ruled out. A disruptive leadership change in the US, or a serious geo-political event in Taiwan may be the trigger. A concurrence of events would provide an ideal window for action.

#11 The question remains, should Russia invade what will be the European and American response? Forget NATO, it is a shell. The political response is the question. Will Europe cut off Russian gas? Will the Ukraine be understood as a replica of the Soviet invasion of Finland? Will serious economic penalties be imposed? Can the USA take the place of Nordstream? Will Germany join Russia in the recrudescence of a Molotov-Von Ribbentrop show? Lots of questions and it appears that the Biden group has no answers.

No, Putin has control of his government and a compliant Duma legislature. Neither of these luxuries were available to Trump.

Besides, Trump was a businessman and Putin was a bureaucratic Spook so a difference in negotiating style is inevitable.
