#4 maybe they kept the good parts and tossed out the refuge. Then, someone can follow them home. Sorta like bait fishing, cleaning, tossing out the guts and attracting more fish. Maybe?

#5 It sounds like it was Iraqi soldiers manning the checkpoint. Good for them! It doesn't say, but I wonder if they recorded the fingerprints, names, etc of the ones they threw back... to add to that clever cross-link finding computer program the Americans have been adding data to for the last several years. Raw data is such a lovely thing, almost as lovely as graphed data revealing all its pretty patterns! :-D
