#1 Well you tax the rich to flight and shut down their play town, how are you going make up the loss? Next opium products or modern chemistry?

#2 Didn't they try this in California - found out, due to all added taxes, people prefer black market?

#3 ..they didn't learn from NY's experience with tobacco tax. Thus choking to death some small time dealer for selling singles. As long as there is government there will be an insatiable need for other peoples money and capital cause cutting out the frills that encrusts the legitimate rationale for government and going back to basics is out of the question.

#4 How about 10 more lottery scratch-offs, Grandma Killer? I'm sure there's no regressive tax on the poor that you didn't like.

Ah, but wait! Lottery proceeds "go to the schools". Never mind.

#5 Sarcasm aside, weed should be legalized, like, yesterday. And anybody on prison on a non-violent weed charge should be released, like, the day before yesterday.

#6 Why stop there? Legalize prostitution and gambling and hire "local revenue coordinators" - AKA Mafia to ensure prompt collections..

#7 legal weed "seems" like a good idea but the resuting de-motivation to a large part of the population who smoke it bodes ill for society. In India/Nepal its socially unacceptable where its basically been around for thousands of years

#8 Absolutely. Prostitution and gambling should be legal and, preferably, the state's hands out of it. These anachronisms from days long gone need to go. Peaceful deals without coercion between people should be free to take place.

#9 Let me go out on a resinous limb and predict:

Best case: New York taxes and regulates the *bleep* out of the legal market, ensuring that the black market continues and that revenue is only about a third of predicted value.

Worst case:
The above, plus a regulatory structure that favors a few large players and effectively creates a marijuana cartel.

#10 Apparently not under consideration - reducing the number of hacks in NY state government. Totally unsurprising.
