And too many very young people who believe that firepower is the answer to interpersonal disagreements. But we digress...

"My heart goes out to the young victim and his family. We as city leaders must create more opportunities for young people to engage in positive, productive afterschool activities."

And if any of them WENT to school, that might have some vague, chimerical hope of relevance. But do go on.

"Parents must take more responsibility for their young people who are perpetrating much of this violence, destroying and disrupting their own lives before they really get started. This must be an entire community effort, we cannot rely on police alone."

Parents who are too stoned, drunk, absent, abusive, uncaring, or any combination of the above. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Looks to be well meaning folks who try but are shoveling water off the beach.

Unless you've got the little angels polishing windmills and solar panels, there may not be much they can do. On the other hand, it's a great tax break.
