#1 Took the US a hundred years to actually achieve something approximating racial equality. I would like to see a good start in the Afghan constitution. Iran might become a positive influence on Afghanistan after the current government falls. It will take years.

#2 The first government to treat women as equal had a hard fight. The second had it a little easier. After more than 100 years, and people see that the world hasn't ended, it'll be easier still for those that still need to take that vital step. They also have 100+ years of trial and error to look upon to decide what works and what doesn't. I think equality for women in Afghanistan and Iraq can only come about when we whack the Wahabists hard enough and often enough to force them to keep their head down. That will do a lot to encourage success throughout the Arab world.

#3 I only fear that it'll be like Pakland. It'll only be enforcable in the major cities. The yokels in the tribal areas will have none of that. Only time will tell.
