#1 Hamas probably did not expect Israel to invade Gaza, just drop a few bombs and call it a day.

Hamas bully boys have no desire to fight real soldiers. That's why they attacked civilian targets, not military bases on October 7.

Israel no long cares what the world thinks, which is Hamas' worst fear.

#2 The nature of the attack suggests that Hamas intended to provoke a response, and they are going to get it. Iran is moving the chess pieces, doesn't matter what anyone in Hamas thinks - they're raised not to.

p.s. Not sure Hamas really planned for IDF's invasion - every time before IDF was stopped in the middle.
