#2 Missiles have warheads. That's the point. Solid fuel missiles are full of stuff that goes whoosh when under control and bang when not under control.
When a bunch of fertilizer can self-initiate and destroy a port, why can't an airstrike set off stuff just jonesing to explode? Not a big enough hole. here.
From which it can be deduced that these facilities were doing some kind of sub-component manufacturing.
Boring. Also, if you're going to expend resources, why not make the other guy expend his by having his stuff explode itself...with a little encouragement.

#3 Stuff that goes boom can be easily replaced. The hard to replace, expensive equipment and engineers were likely what was there, not the stuff that goes boom.
