Yeah, right - the 'international community' was fellating these guys as they marched into Kabul. They probably still are but I haven't read the BBC's website in a while.

Read about the sack of Thebes and Persepolis, where all the men were killed. It's basically self-preservation. If you lose, they might do the same to you. The old principle of reciprocity was last used by Uncle Sam in the Philippine-American War:

Note that it ended with American victory. The Taliban's methods aren't pretty, but they've worked since time immemorial. That's why so many extant humans bear DNA from one male line and a completely unrelated female line, geographically speaking. The men were slaughtered, and the women taken as wives.

If we had done what the Taliban are doing today, the movement would have been eliminated inside a year. Millions of mostly Pashtun members of the Taliban and associated supporters would lie in mass graves, but Afghanistan would be at peace, and we wouldn't have wasted $1T and thousands of American lives.
