#2 Not sure I've ever heard a passive defense referred to as 'a sharpened tool'.

Castle, wall, bunker, spear wall, moat, fence, ravelin, even cheveaux de frise, stuff like that.

I know language is getting lazy, but people are getting lazy with holding cards as to not show others as well.
