#1 Just as an aside, my father was a a research department head at Roswell Park, Mr. Wife started his career in the student summer research program, and my sister programmed their computers for a few years after getting her PhD, before finding a tenure track teaching position. His pension was not anything like Dr. Shashikant Lele‘s, but surgical specialists get paid a lot more to keep people alive than are researchers who kill lab animals creatively while finding treatments for the surgeons to use.

#2 Civil service originally was to pay out a modest salary with a very modest pension in return for job security. Why anyone is drawing more than the 50 percent level of working taxpaying Americans is an example of the reduction of those taxpayers to involuntary servitude by the pols favoring employee unions over their fiduciary responsibilities to the electorate.
