#1 Lots of "medications" are more side effect than therapeutic value. They should all be sold over the counter, caveat emptor.

I know plenty of people I wouldn't interact with at all if it weren't for their nicotine and caffeine use.

#2 and for other common drugs the therapeutic dosage is not very far from the toxic or 'does harm' dosage, e.g., tylenol
