#2 When I still lived in PeeAye, I had to get a new deep well pump. The well service guy made a point of showing me that down to the brass fittings, he was not using Chinese sourced stuff. And that was a decade ago.

#8 It would be a very pleasant surprise, just like it was with the USSR, to see the Chinese Communist Party lose its grip but I'm not holding my breath waiting for it. For decades I've heard stories of internal divisions and strife but somehow the commie bastards keep running the show. If they have to crack a few heads they will.

#9 Frank G, The Chinese are terrified of rebellions growing and toppling dynasties. They "only" hate and fear the barbarians beyond the borders. The mere existence of Taiwan taps into this existential dread.
