#1 Hamburg is currently building a huge LNG terminal. Diversification has been on Germany's agenda for quite some time.

As for the soy beans... I might be speculating here but China will certainly buy more soy beans from Brazil, so that makes sense, too.

In the end it seems that cooler heads prevail.

#2 Looks like Heiko Maas was wrong and Trump was right.

Treason May should read "The Art of the Deal".

#3 Bend the knee, Europe. Bend the knee.

Now if we can just get started on ending defense subsidies things will really get rolling.

#4 I'm sure Trump will spin this as a deal but he didn't get anything new. Instead he had to backtrack from his car tariffs.

"Moving towards" is just the same empty talk than the Korea deal. "As long as negotiations are going on" will mean years.

#5 There was no deal on anything but non-auto industrial goods and soybeans.

#6 Er it's called a deal, both sides offer something.

It would never have happened if the threat hadn't been there.

#10 I'm not hearing any back tracking. The stick is still out there as well as the carrot. A tariff free EU would be nice.

#11 The EU President said he came here seeking to make a deal "today" (i.e. yesterday), so it appears the EU was more anxious for a deal than Trump was.

The soybean deal releases pressure on American farmers.

Yeah, and the coolest head of all is Trump's.

#13 What better consumer of soy than europeons?

#14 Well, much ado about not really much. First of all "the EU" doesn't buy anything. This is the decision of importing companies. Since China will buy more soy beans from Brazil, the U.S. will sell more soy beans to European importers (mainly used for animals).

LNG imports may rise, but no numbers or guarantees were given.

But basically Junker made no "concessions" (he has no power to do so), just some vague promises.

The most important thing: No 25% tariffs on cars which would have triggered a REAL trade war. If Trump doesn't change his mind tomorrow, we can all deescalate a bit.

I'm a businessman and I can tell you, that this "art of the deal" is not very successful. I deal with reliable partners who fulfill their contracts. If they don't, I look elsewhere.

My guess is that the EU will just sit Trump out. I don't like Junker at all but he has decades of experience in these things.

#19 Back in the day the media (and Democrats) thought Reagan was nuts. I believe they convinced the Soviets he was nuts. They could no longer play the crazy Ivan game and intimidate a mad man. It helped end the cold war.

I believe the same sort of thing is playing out with Trump.
