I am leaning towards a Drug/Gun Deal gone bad.
Not a Mass HEADLINE GRABBING Baseball game shooting.

But given all the recent over-hyped Anti-Gun coverage and talk of rewriting the 2nd Amendment. This story, will likely turn on some whacked out idiots light-bulb.

A reasonable supposition. The body armor kinda rules out a day at the range.

The repeated denials that this has anything to do with the baseball game makes me think their ultimate destination was elsewhere and the 'authorities' (top men, all of them!) do not want to spill the beans so they can continue to monitor and incite the plot.
