#1 Morocco has always been a bright spot in Africa. They were the first country to officially recognize the fledgling United States. The royal family there dates back centuries, and have always been moderate, while moving ahead with the rest of the world only with what they considered to be compatible with their Islamic faith. It also has one of the most diverse populations in Africa, and allows several Islamic sects near-total religious freedom. The Jews driven out of Spain in the early 1500s found a home in Morocco.
