#1 It will likely soon be revealed that Carter Page was a vehicle, a recruited intelligence community source who knew exactly what he was doing and whom he was working for.

No one was "spying" on Carter Page, he was not the target. Intelligences sources are monitored. Carter Page was the source of the reporting. His reporting was being monitored, until he was forced to leave the campaign team.

A likely 'Red Herring' albeit a poor very one.

#2 It seems like a lot of people inside and outside the government "wanted" to believe the B.S. Maybe they all knew it was B.S. and pushed it anyway to try to get rid of Trump. They knew Trump was a danger to all their Deep State cozy relationships.
