Zhou Enlai - died 1976 (77) "Premier of the People's Republic of China" (Now)

Virginia Christine - died 1996 (76) "Mrs. Olsen, Folgers Coffee" (Now)

Elaine Paige - 61 "Grizabella in Cats" (Now)

Teena Marie - 53 "Motown, 'It Must Be Magic'" (Now)

Niki Taylor - 33 "Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Model" (Now)

This Day in History:
1836 - Samuel Colt makes the first production-model revolver, the .34-caliber.
1872 - George Westinghouse patents the air brake. (Unions would have protested loss of brakeman's jobs)
1933 - Great Depression: President Franklin D. Roosevelt declares a "bank holiday", closing all U.S. banks and freezing all financial transactions. (What, no bailout?)
1946 - Winston Churchill uses the phrase "Iron Curtain" in his speech at Westminster College, Missouri. (When British leaders used to have a spine)
1958 - Explorer 2 spacecraft launches and fails to reach Earth orbit. (Renamed "Civil Service', can't fire it and can't get it to work)

#2 I remember watching the live coverage of Explorer 2 on the newly installed TVs in our classroom. We were disappointed when it blew up on the pad, but we were also aware that the Soviets would never have dared to put their launches on live TV.

#3 Explorer 2's fourth stage failed to ignite... it didn't blow up on the pad.

#5 December it was, not March. A long, long time ago.

#6 You want Tambourines, you got Tambourines

Music soothes the savage beast

Gypsies brought us the wonderful music of the Tambourine.

Naturally the Ruskies supersized their Tambourines.

Billy started the Tambourine trend in Hollywood

Theda picked up on the advantage of playing an instrument.

Ethel also mastered the difficult instrument.

Gina was known for her Tambourine playing

Tina played an ornate model.

Stevie studied the Tambourine at Julliard

Playboy Playmate Cathy gets in her licks

Madonna plays one "Like a Trollop Virgin"

Carlene is a two fisted player

Patti's group played the Tambourine with Soul

Lucille always kept a supply on hand "Babalu"

Yuk

How about Al and his Tambourine orchestra

#7 We take US287 from Amarillo to Decatur, Texas, when we go back to Louisiana to visit relatives. My daughter never commented until she saw the movie, "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", which was supposed to have taken place in Goodnight, TX. Not much of a town left.
