#1 In an interview with the London-based Arabic daily Al-Sharq Al-Awsat, Mustafa Mashur, the Sixth General Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, asserted that many intelligence services had failed "to pinpoint a world leadership." He contended the Ikhwan had, "no international leadership controlling its activities;" rather, "local leaders" met from time to time "to exchange views and to preserve relationships." Mashur noted that after it was crushed by Nasser in the 1950s the organization "scattered across the Arab world and beyond." Thereafter, "it set about accomodating itself [and] operating in each country according to local possibilities." Contradictions exist, but that remains today the argument of the London Ikhwan.
