Can't say I'm too surprised, though, in a technological sense (considering that it's not too different from ordering a hit over the phone -- albeit maybe something in the video pushed the teen to do it?).

#6 Edward, it's not that I'm a technophobe, it's that I'm appallingly ignorant. ... and occasionally more than a little obtuse. I saw web cam, but thought street/security cam. Sorry for wasting Fred's bandwidth on such a foolish question.

#10 I say hold off on the cynicism. He could have easily set up a web cam chat with some jihadi leader . Hell, they may have been chatting for months. Complete cyber recruitment. Or better yet, blackmail. Do it for us, but also do it so we don't kill your father.

#12 There have been several news articles about sex and blackmail schemes via webcams, different countries, but usually aimed at teenagers.

Jihad via webcam does not sound unreasonable to me.
