#5 Actually I'm positively surprised by the reaction of the French political class, given the circumstances.

The justice minister was harshly criticized not only by the opposition but also by the governing party. The interior minister explicitly affirmed the right to blaspheme i.e. criticize religion.

The situation in France is very, very bad but not nearly as bad as in Germany for example.

Mila's words were a mild verbal version of Charlie Hebdo's cartoons which is why the pope's public thuggish mockery of the victims is relevant.
