#2 Shipman, check out Roadrunner operations during the Vietnam War. The US had gun trucks for convoy escort and ambush suppression, and they were the closest the US has had to technicals. Also check, "http://www.almc.army.mil/alog/issues/JulAug03/

#4 A couple (at least) have been recreated/restored and make the rounds of weekend events link. Only one original remains at Ft. Eustis. The Ace of Spades mounted a mini-gun.

#6 I like this one better. It would make a GREAT convoy protector. Don't know how much ammo it carries, but I'm sure it's enough to spoil someone's entire day.

The US Army also called out from retirement/National Guard storage the M42Duster tank, for area defense of firebases and limited road protection duties - "http://www.mystae.com/reflections/vietnam/duster.html". Even Vulcan 20mm Gatling guns saw use as ground fire weapons {see link above}.
