#1 so clueless. It's fun to watch these poor bastards attempt to define what they don't understand.

#2 Americanism is a worldview. That is to say, it is world-centered. Religions are by definition God-centered. Q.E.D.

But he did throw around lots of pretty words and historical descriptions, fwiw.

#3 it is an interesting article and I after thinking about it, there is a valid discussion in how Americanism is shaped by Christianity or vice versa.

But to describe "Americanism" as a religion shows his arrow missed the mark on Christianity. But then, I spent half my childhood going to church and not grasping what it was that others were talking about when they talked about their faith. So now that I have a clue, I'm like a non-smoker - discussions I might have once found interesting or insightful on the mechanics of faith - but void of the spiritual depth that underlies it - now irritate me because I know that those who analyse it feel so smug in their belief that they have some sort of superior insight that the believing Christian lacks. But now I see that it is they that are clueless and the believer who has the higher insight.
