Federal Court Orders Snap Hearing on Awan Brothers, Congressional Democrat IT Scandal After DOJ Files Document Under Seal
[Judicial Watch] Judicial Watch announced today that a federal court yesterday ordered a snap hearing after the Justice Department submitted information under seal on Friday following the court's demand for an explanation of why no records have been produced in the ongoing legal battle for documents about the Congressional Democrat IT (information technology) scandal involving the Awan brothers. The hearing is set for tomorrow, January 15, at 10 am.
Which is today
In November 2018, Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the FBI over two FOIA requests for records related to the Awan brothers (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:18-cv-02563)).

In August 2019, the Justice Department told the court that it would begin producing records by November 5, 2019. After producing no records, on November 13, 2019, the agency told Judicial Watch that it was having "technical difficulties," and in a recent email claimed that "difficulties with the production remain."

In a joint status report filed on December 5, 2019, Judicial Watch reported to the court that the DOJ claimed in a phone call that it was now unable to produce any records to either of the FOIA requests "because the agency was waiting for some unspecified action by Judge [Tanya S.] Chutkan in some other matter so as to avoid having to produce records in this case." In that same report the DOJ told the court that Judge Chutkan is "presiding over a related sealed criminal matter" that prohibits the government from releasing the requested FOIA information.

In a hearing last month, U.S. District Court Judge Amit P. Mehta expressed frustration and ordered the Justice Department to explain its failure to produce records by January 10 and to provide Judicial Watch some details about the delay. Instead, the Justice Department made its filing under seal and has yet to provide Judicial Watch with any details about its failure to produce records as promised to the court.

"The cover-up of the Awan Brothers Democratic IT scandal shows the FBI and DOJ's penchant for dishonesty isn't just limited to FISA abuse," stated Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. "The DOJ's handling of the Awan Brothers case has long been an issue of concern and now we are expected believe some secret investigation prevents the public from knowing the full truth about this scandal. We are skeptical."

Imran Awan and his family were banned from the House computer network in February 2017 after the House's top law enforcement officer wrote that Imran was "an ongoing and serious risk to the House of Representatives, possibly threatening the integrity of our information systems," and that a server containing evidence had gone "missing." The inspector general said server logs showed "unauthorized access" and procurement records were falsified.

Imran Awan was Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz's (D-FL) top information technology aide. Most lawmakers fired Awan in February, but Wasserman Schultz kept him on until he was arrested in July 2017, trying to board a flight for Pakistan.

In July 2018, Imran Awan was given a plea deal, and pled guilty to federal bank fraud but prosecutors found no evidence that Awan "violated federal law with respect to the House computer systems."

The Awan brothers reportedly "were not given background checks before being given access to highly sensitive government information and no explanations have been given as to why." Additionally, "If they would have run this background check it would have found out not only multiple criminal convictions, but $1 million bankruptcy, a dozen lawsuits … it would have found a whole host of major red flags and the Democrats didn't do any of those checks."

The status hearing is before Judge Amit P. Mehta.

#4  Following the Related links backward, eighteen months ago Besoeker summarized in a comment as follows:

Duel citizen, Pakistani IT specialists/hackers working for the DNC, who live in Woodbridge, VA, also have a used car dealership in Falls Church, traveling to and from Pakistan. Awans flee the U.S. and return to Pakistan virtually without comment from the USI or Law Enforcement (LE). Rep. Wasserman Schultz becomes “frantic, not normal,” threatens D.C. police official, "makes the rounds" to House officials in an attempt to kill the Awan financial fraud Investigation.

House Ethics Committee remains silent. USI says little if anything. LE appears reluctant to further investigate, bring charges.

Awan’s wife, Hina Alvi, eats cheese...gets Katherine Russell deal (Tamerlan Tsarnaev's widow), 'is having all charges against her dismissed as part of the agreement.'

Entire Awan matter runs parallel Robert Mueller Trump-Russia 'collusion' investigation and disinformation campaign.

House Democrats demand ICE release all transgender illegal aliens held in detention
[The Hill via Right Scoop] In the latest insane demand from Democrats, they are now saying that ICE needs to release all transgender illegal aliens currently in detention. From the Hill:
House Democrats plan to call on a key immigration agency to release all transgender people who are currently being detained, arguing that the U.S. has failed to follow guidelines to protect individuals who face more perilous conditions in detention than other migrants.

"We write to demand the release of all transgender people currently detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)," the letter to ICE is expected to say, according to an early copy obtained by The Hill.

"Transgender migrants and asylum seekers are particularly vulnerable to sexual harassment, solitary confinement, physical assault, and medical neglect. These inhumane conditions and systematic abuses are evidenced in countless reports and accounts by formally detained people," continues the letter, which will be addressed to acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf and acting ICE Director Matthew Albence.

I can definitely believe that transgender detainees are at higher risk than others. And that’s because many of those from Latin American countries are actually very bigoted against any kind of non-traditional gender expression.

Michael Avenatti Arrested by Feds at California State Bar Hearing
h/t Instapundit
[Daily Beast] - Ex-Stormy Daniels lawyer and Trump antagonist Michael Avenatti was led out of the State Bar Court in Los Angeles by federal agents on Tuesday evening.

The arrest occurred outside the disciplinary hearing in which the State Bar of California has accused the hard-charging, tough-talking attorney of using a doctored document to scam a client out of nearly $840,000, funneling money from a lawsuit settlement fund to his own personal use.

The State Bar of California, the official attorney licensing agency, has sought to put Avenatti on "involuntary inactive status," setting in motion a timeline for disbarment proceedings.

During a break in testimony, members of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, who are prosecuting Avenatti in a separate criminal matter in Orange County, parleyed with Avenatti's team of lawyers and took the lawyer into custody.

"I understand that Mr. Avenatti has been arrested by the federal authorities for violating the terms of his release," said attorney Steven Bledsoe, who represents the alleged Avenatti victim in the State Bar case and was present when the arrest occurred.

#1  ...has sought to put Avenatti on "involuntary inactive status," setting in motion a timeline for disbarment proceedings.

I think this means the state bar was trying to get him to go quietly and just let his law license expire, and this is Plan B if things turn to shit, which may have just occurred.

VA Dems Drop AR-15 Confiscation After 1000s of NRA Members Show
[BREITBART] Virginia Democrats withdrew an AR-15 confiscation bill Monday after thousands of NRA members showed up to oppose new gun controls.

The NRA asked members to flood the January 13, 2020, Virginia Senate meetings and ensure pro-Second Amendment voices drowned out those calling for gun control.

Video from hallways outside the meetings showed NRA members responded en masse:

The Washington Free Beacon reports the presence of thousands of NRA members “appeared to have an impact.” Democrats withdrew a bill aimed at AR-15 confiscation and moderated other gun control proposals.

But NRA-ILA Virginia state director Daniel Spiker made clear the changes, though good, were not enough.

He said, “While there were some improvements to some of these bills, overall, it’s still bad legislation. Putting in more regulations and making it more onerous on the law-abiding citizens of Virginia is not something we stand for.”

Michael Flynn withdraws guilty plea
I’m so glad. Rake ‘em up one side and down the other, General!
[Wash Times] President Trump’s former national security adviser has withdrawn his guilty plea in one of the top-profile Robert Mueller cases.

Retired Gen. Michael T. Flynn filed papers Tuesday evening with the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia repudiating his agreement to plead guilty to charges of lying to the FBI about his conversations with the Russian ambassador.

"Michael T. Flynn hereby moves to withdraw his plea because of the government’s bad faith, vindictiveness, and breach of the plea agreement," the filing reads.
