Second Brand USA exec leaves company on heels of Senate report
Another top executive has departed from Brand USA, a public-private corporation founded to promote U.S. tourism, in the wake of a congressional report detailing what its authors call waste and cronyism.

Travel Market Report writes that Brand USA chief marketing officer Chris Perkins has left the company. Perkins is the second executive to leave the firm. Brand USA CEO Jim Evans left in June, a week after several U.S. Senators first began probing the company.

The report, released last week by Sens. Tom Coburn (R., Okla.) and Jim DeMint
...junior U.S. Senator from South Carolina, distinguished by not being Lindsey Graham. He is a member of the Republican Party and a well-regarded leader in the Tea Party movement...
(R., S.C.), slammed Brand USA and the Department of Commerce for providing "only a small cross section" of the requested documents.

However,
by candlelight every wench is handsome...
the report said, the documents the senators did obtain "paint a picture of mismanagement, waste and cronyism."

Brand USA's board, which is appointed by President Barack Obama's administration, is stacked with Obama campaign donors. The company first came under fire for hosting a lavish London gala.
A mix of private contributions and matching federal grants funds Brand USA. The report claims Brand USA relied on questionable "in-kind" non-cash contributions to qualify for more taxpayer dollars.

As previously reported by the Washington Free Beacon, Brand USA's board, which is appointed by President Barack Obama's administration, is stacked with Obama campaign donors. The company first came under fire for hosting a lavish London gala.

Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. Is Hanging Out at Bars While Under 'Doctor's Care'
When Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. emerged from last summer's disappearance--he had, his family said, been seeking treatment for bipolar disorder at the Mayo Clinic--his chief of staff told news hounds that he was "convalescing with his wife and children at home in Washington." But last week, he was seen convalescing in a D.C. bar with two different women on two consecutive nights.

According to two independent sources, Jackson was spotted drinking at Bier Baron Tavern, a craft beer bar not far from Dupont Circle, on Tuesday and Wednesday nights last week. Each night, he was accompanied by a different woman. According to both sources, Jackson was drinking. "They were laughing and very focused on each other," one source said of Jackson's demeanor on Wednesday night. "Not sure when they left but I saw them there around 10:30 p.m. They didn't appear intoxicated or loud, but were definitely enjoying themselves."

The Wall Street Journal reported today that federal prosecutors are "in the final stages of a criminal probe" into claims that Jackson illegally used campaign funds to redecorate his $1.3 million home in Washington. That's on top of a separate federal inquiry into Jackson's role in former Illinois Gov. Rod Y'gotta pay to play! Blagojevich
Who was tried and eventually convicted on federal corruption charges that he tried to sell or trade Obama's old U.S. Senate seat.

's vacated Senate seat. So the guy probably needed a drink last week. (And it wouldn't, according to Chicago Magazine, be even remotely the first time he spent quality time with a woman other than his wife, Chicago alderman Sandi Jackson.)

#5  According to this morning's front-page WaPo article on "Junior" -- Jackson is recuperating at his home in Washington after spending at least six weeks at the Mayo Clinic, where he was visited by Kucinich and former congressman Patrick Kennedy. His staff hasn’t said when he will return. Few colleagues have seen him, but Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II (D-Mo.) said in a brief interview that he dined with Jackson recently and has spent time with Rev. Jackson. “They’re trying to make sure that he is completely well before he comes back,” Cleaver said.

I guess visiting the DC bar scene with "women" means he has completly recovered. Unless he was in for alcohol abuse.

DOE-backed battery maker files for bankruptcy
Unexpectedly!
In news that's sure to provide fresh fodder for Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney ahead of his debate tonight with President Obama, an electric-car battery maker backed by a quarter-billion-dollar grant from the Obama administration filed today for bankruptcy protection.

The company, A123 Systems Inc., received $249 million through the Department of Energy in 2009 and earned praise from Obama himself in 2010 for helping to keep jobs in the United States.

Today, DOE sought to put the best face on the bankruptcy filing by noting that A123 is working on a consolidation plan with Johnson Controls Inc. in Milwaukee to sell two Michigan manufacturing plants along with other assets

#5

A123 Systems Inc. (AONE), a maker of rechargeable lithium-ion batteries for electric cars, filed for bankruptcy after failing to make a debt payment that was due yesterday.

The company listed assets of $459.8 million and debt of $376 million as of Aug. 31 in Chapter 11 documents filed today in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, Delaware.

The bankruptcy filing may fuel further political debate over government financing of alternative-energy and transportation businesses. Federal grants and loans to companies including A123, Fisker Automotive Inc. and Tesla Motors Inc. have drawn scrutiny from congressional Republicans following the September 2011 bankruptcy filing of solar-panel maker Solyndra LLC two years after it received a $535 million loan guarantee from the U.S. Energy Department.

Electric-vehicle sales since 2011 totaled fewer than 50,000 through September, just 5 percent of Obama’s target to have 1 million such vehicles on U.S. roads by 2015.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said last month that Obama has picked “losers” for alternative-energy loans and grants. His running mate, Paul Ryan, has called for all green-energy subsidies to be eliminated.

A123 has posted at least 14 straight quarterly losses. Its shares have fallen 85 percent this year to 24 cents at yesterday’s close in New York and traded at 16 cents at 8:29 a.m. before the start of regular trading.

Biden: Planned Parenthood 'Under Law Cannot Perform Any Abortion;' Planned Parenthood: We Did 985,731 In 3 Years
Vice President Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden
The former Senator-for-Life from Delaware, an example of the kind of top-notch Washington intellect to be found in the World's Greatest Deliberative Body...
said at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse on Friday that Planned Parenthood
...has received federal funding since 1970, when President Richard Nixon signed into law the Family Planning Services and Population Research Act. It is sometimes described as the gynecololgical wing of the Democratic party.
"under law cannot perform any abortion."

Planned Parenthood itself has published fact sheets indicating that it did 985,731 abortions in just the three years from 2008 through 2010. These included 324,008 abortion in 2008, 332,278 abortions in 2009, and 329,445 abortions in 2010.

Biden made his remark in response to former Massachusetts Gov. Willard Mitt Romney
...former governor of Massachussetts, currently the Publican nominee for president. He is the son of the former governor of Michigan, George Romney, who himself ran for president after saving American Motors from failure, though not permanently. Romney has a record as a successful businessman, heading Bain Capital, and he rescued the 2002 Winter Olympics from the midst of bribery and mismanagement scandals. More to the point, he isn't President B.O...
position that he would defund Planned Parenthood.

"And now these guys pledge that they are going to defund Planned Parenthood, which under law cannot perform any abortion," said Biden. "You heard it last night again."

Biden may have confused whether Planned Parenthood can legally perform abortions with whether it can legally use the federal subsidies it receives to directly fund an abortion.

A Congressional Research Service report published on Aug. 28 said that the federal government gives Planned Parenthood about $66 million per year in Title X "family planning" grants. The law prohibits recipients from using Title X money for abortion except in cases of rape, incest or to save the life of the mother. However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
Planned Parenthood and other organizations that receive federal subsidies under Title X can take the federal money and do abortions at the same time as long use other dollars--not the dollars they got from the federal government--to pay for an actual abortion.

#3  Biden may have confused whether Planned Parenthood can legally perform abortions with whether it can legally use the federal subsidies it receives to directly fund an abortion.

Typical ignorance/lies about the fungibility of money. It doesn't matter what pocket the money comes out of. Federal funds can only pay the electric bills? Okay, the money that would have to be spent on electric bills can now be spent on abortions. Disgusting.

This is a major problem with foreign aid too.

Posted by: Besoeker || 10/16/2012 3:55 Comments || Top||

#3  And in true Bolshevik fashion, Biden's strategy was to silence his opponent. To call this man a Democrat is to mock democracy. If you truly believe in democracy then you must be willing to listen to opposing points of view. Biden is not willing to listen and he wants to make sure that nobody else gets to listen either. Old Joe Stalin gave the communists a bad name and so now they call themselves Democrats. Old Smirkin' Joe Biden would feel right at home with the likes of Stalin and Khrushchev.
