#5  I don't remember him federalizing the National Guard to deal with Portland, Mpls, Seattle, etc.

President Trump offered, but his offers were scornfully rejected by various mayors and governors, as I recall.

#6  ^ yes. Refused, loudly, with insults and much posturing, by the incompetent left-wing governors of Oregon and Washington and the idiot left-wing mayors of Portland and Seattle.

By politicizing this issue during an election year, the Democrats caused innocent people to be killed. The Democrat mayors and governors have blood on their hands.

#7  Trump used federal law enforcement to defend federal buildings, and the reaction to it was if he'd buggered Posse Comitatus on the White House lawn. My only criticism of him was not allowing officers to respond with deadly force when the mob tried to blind them or threw explosives.

But, in the end, his approach was the more politic.

#8  Re #5, The president doesn't need the permission of the Governor to nationalize the Guard. As has been noted before, he probably listened to advisors who told him being "heavy-handed" would blow his chances of re-election. Look how well that turned out.

  • Windsor police officer Joe Gutierrez has been fired from the force

  • Firing came hours after Virginia Governor Ralph Northam tweeted that the traffic stop involving Army lieutenant Caron Nazario was 'disturbing and angered him'

  • Nazario, who is black and Latino has since claimed his constitutional rights were violated during the traffic stop which was all caught on body cam video

  • Windsor police officers Daniel Crocker and Gutierrez had radioed saying they were attempting to stop a vehicle with no rear license plate and tinted windows

  • During the stop, Nazario was pepper sprayed and struck across the legs

  • Windsor police officer Daniel Crocker still appears to be on the force

#1  WRONG
Assault can not be condoned, officer is representative of the State and defender of its laws, Military is not supreme: firing authority is weak and uneducated in its responsibility to all citizens and its officer should not be summarily punished without an internal tribunal, at which the US Military is called to speak on behalf of it's member's actions.

#2  NOTE: I WATCHED THE VIDEO W/O AUDIO

OK watched the video by the 2nd officer responding. At 10sec to 30 sec. his odometer shows normal speeds with the BLUES lit up responding .

On arrival #2 and sees 1st officer of scene already had weapon drawn. Adopting the same threat level #2 draws his weapon and establishes a alternative vantage point.

1st officer appears to be issuing verbal orders to the suspect. Given the suspect is NOT exiting the vehicle, it appears the officers have a combative suspect.

The media mentions a UNIFORM. But what is only seen by officers is a BDU Field Jacket. Which can be purchased at any Flea Market or Thrift store. A common BLOM / Protestor attire.

From From #2 arrival to 3:50 the suspect has refused Officer #1's orders.

From about 3:58 to about 4:23 Officer #1 attempts to unlock the door and have the suspect exit and fails.

At about 4:26 or about 3+ mins AFTER officer #2 arrived, Officer #2 uses non- lethal force (MACE) to bring the argumentative suspect under control. A suspect that appears to still be engaging debate and refusing follow lawful orders.

4:23 to 5:10 Officer #2 sprays the suspect multiple times. Officer #1 can be seen with a puzzled look on his face at this point.

Around 5:20 the door is open the suspect is unable to see. Still strapped in by a seat belt. It can be seen the suspect is in military uniform not thrift store stuff.

At 5:56 the suspect exits vehicle and placed on the ground.

I don't see a Club or etc...

NOTE: Like I said I watch the video w/o Audio.

So was the officer fired to avoid greater BLM/WOKE Protest/Riot issues?

Or do we need to see more video?

12-year-old boy shot in chest while walking on NYC street
[NYPOST] A 12-year-old boy is expected to survive after being shot in the chest while walking on a Brooklyn street Saturday night, according to police and sources.

Shots rang out at around 9:50 p.m. as two groups were fighting near Malcolm X Boulevard and Madison Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant, the NYPD said.
Malcolm X, ya say? Shouldn't it be mostly unicorns, skittles and rainbows there?
The boy heard the gunfire — and then felt pain and realized he’d been hit, cops said.

It was unclear if the boy was a bystander or had been targeted.

He ducked into a nearby liquor store and asked for help, prompting the owner to call 911, police sources said.

The child was taken to Maimonides Medical Center and was expected to survive.

Officers recovered at least five shell casings from the scene and were canvassing for possible video of the shooting, according to sources.

There were no immediate arrests.

Afghanistan
Construction on 89 schools completed in Herat province
Even if they become targets, at least for a while they’ll have been actual schools.
[KhaamaPress] The Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) has reported the completion of 89 school constructions under the chamber of national citizen charter project in Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
province.

Thousands of children are expected to be given access to high quality education facilities, MRRD said.

The head of the development council for Ghorian district, Mohammad Nader hailed the completion of the projects and stressed that this means that children in the suburbs will not study outdoors.

117 other schools are under construction and planning stages to be built under the AQRA project in the region.

Students wherein new schools were built, studied in unfavorable and harsh conditions but with the construction of these educational facilities, their problems were "solved", Nader told media.

Out of 206 schools, 89 have already been built, 62 are under construction and another 55 are in the planning and development stage.

It is expected than over one million students will enrol in the schools of the country this year.

The government has planned to establish 1800 new schools and appoint 1100 new teachers across the country during the year 1400.

The devastating effects of war and conflict in the country have deprived many children of gaining knowledge, especially for girls, completing their primary learnings remain a dream in the rural areas.

UNICEF indicated an estimated 3.7 million children are deprived of educational facilities in Afghanistan, and girls make 60% of them.

Lack of schools, transportation, cultural and traditional believes, and insecurity is reported to be the main reasons to prevent girls from going to schools.

Meanwhile,
...back at the laboratory the smoke and fumes had dispersed, to reveal an ominous sight...
worsened economic conditions of Afghanistan have also caused many families not to send their children to schools for gaining knowledge.

Sudan to hand over 60 Ethiopian militiamen, soldiers
[Sudan Tribune] The Sudanese army will hand over dozens of Æthiopian murderous Moslems and soldiers arrested during sporadic festivities on the Sudanese-Æthiopian border.Reliable military sources told the Sudan Tribune that the handover process was supposed to take place on Saturday in the border town of Galabat, but it postponed to Monday for more technical arrangements.

"The military and administrative arrangements in the 2nd Infantry Division Command have been completed to release 60 Æthiopian prisoners of the army and Amhara militias," said the military sources.

The military officials pointed out that those Æthiopian elements were arrested by Military Intelligence inside Sudanese territory in the al-Fashaga area where they used to attack Sudanese farmers and herders over the past six months.

They further said that the handover of prisoners confirms Sudan’s keenness to keep up ties of good neighbourliness and to enforce the joint protocols between the two countries.

It is expected that the handover process will take place in the presence of a security committee from the Amhara region bordering the Gadaref State in eastern Sudan.

The Sudanese military said the situation on the border is stable dismissed reports about fresh festivities between the armies of the two countries.

"The Sudanese army has been deployed along the border strip to secure all cotton and corn harvesting operations and the movement of herders," the military further said.

On 1 December 2020, the Sudanese army handed back 50 Æthiopian soldiers who crossed the border area of al-Fashaqa in Gadaref state during the fighting with the Tigrayan People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).

Okot, according to a presidential decree read on the state-owned television (SSTV), becomes South Sudan’s ambassador to Belgium.

Britain
UK eases Covid-19 lockdown, reopening outdoor areas of pubs and restaurants
[France24] Britain took another tentative step towards the resumption of normal life on Monday as pubs and restaurants were allowed to partially reopen, in a major easing of coronavirus restrictions.

English pubs and restaurants can now serve drinkers and diners outside, despite forecasts of wintry temperatures, bringing some cheer to the hard-hit hospitality industry after repeated closures.

"It'll be great to see everybody again and see all the locals," Louise Porter, landlady of The Crown Inn in Askrigg, northern England, told AFP.

Also able to reopen are barbers and hairdressers, where demand is high for long overdue trims more than three months after the latest stay-at-home order was imposed.

A surge of shoppers is expected at stores in the non-essential retail sector as outlets try to recoup heavy Covid losses.

Indoor gyms, swimming pools, libraries and zoos have also been given the go-ahead to open their doors, as have self-catering domestic holidays, where bookings have soared.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Russian ground units either deployed to or activated near Ukraine
[VK] Several Russian motorized and air assault formations have been placed on high alert either near the Russian borders with Ukraine or in Crimea, according to Russian news sources.

The information comes from the V Kontakte page of retired FSB Colonel Igor Girkin, one of the first and main leaders of the Russian speaking separatists in Ukraine in 2014.

According to the post, the Russian 58th Army, the main command component which participated in the War in South Ossetia is slated to be involved in any combat in Ukraine. The report does not indicate which subordinate units could be involved.

Note the Russian 58th Army was the main command component of the Russian counterinsurgency efforts in Chechna in 2000.

Deployed in Crimea itself are two air assault brigades, the 56th Air Assault Brigade and the 7th air Assault Brigade. The 56h Brigade was most recently involved in the war in south Ossetia in 2008.

Also said to be deployed in Crimea is the Russian 76th Guards Air Assault Division. The formation was involved in the takeover of Crimea and some units reported to have been wounded in Ukrainian artillery attacks the Donbas region in 2014.

In Voronezh, some 80 kilometers from the Ukraine border, are elements of the Russian 20th Army, of which two divisions are deployed: the 4th Guards Tank Division (Kantemirovskaya) and the 2nd Guards Motorized Rifle Division (Taman).

Both divisional formations are part of the Russian Western front, but apparently are there to reinforce the army. The army already was composed of two motorized rifle divisions and a variety of other maneuver and combat brigades.

Another army formation, based in Volgograd, has been reestablished. The Russian 8th Guards Army, which included the 150th Motorized Rifle Division, a maneuver brigade (20th Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade) and a rocket artillery brigade (464th Rocket Brigade) was been reactivated in 2017.

The 8th Guards Army has a long distinguished past, having originally been the 62th Army commanded by the hero of the Battle of Stalingrad in 1943, Soviet Marshal Vasily Chuikov. The unit was disbanded in 1998.

There has been no indication in either Russian or English language sources that new formations have been added to the Russian 8th Guards army unit.

The report also stated that Belarus special forces formations are placed on high alert.

All of this new activity by the Russians is reportedly because of statements made by Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy about attacking the separatists in the Donbas region.

Ukraine won't attack their breakaway republics
Short version: Ukraine backs way off
[Korrespondent] Ukraine is not planning an attack on the uncontrolled territories of Donbass. Official Kiev intends to resolve everything through negotiations.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's team has a strong belief that peace must be achieved through negotiations. This was stated by the press secretary of the head of state Yulia Mendel on the air of the Dom TV channel on Sunday, April 11.

“In six months, while the regime of silence was observed, there were only five deaths on our side. And already this year, in just over three months, 26 Ukrainian soldiers were killed. "- Mendel said.

At the same time, according to her, Ukraine is not planning an attack on the uncontrolled territories of Donbass.

"But Russia is a different matter. The whole world today is talking about the accumulation of Russian troops near the Ukrainian border. Along the eastern border, 40 thousand Russian troops have already been concentrated, the same in the occupied Crimea. And now the question is: can Russia attack? Yes, and we are saw in 2014. But you need to assess the situation soberly, succumb to panic and aggravate the situation - this is as stupid as underestimating the reality of the threat, "the press secretary emphasized.

Government Corruption
The detainment of Lt. Caron Nazario
Allahpundit via HotAir
See also here, taking note of NN2N1’s observations in comments.
A Twitter pal watched the body-cam footage below and remarked that it’s striking how the cops keep trying to escalate the situation while the military man does the opposite. Maybe that’s a function of training, maybe it’s a function of personality, maybe some of both. But for six long minutes, it is what it is.

The good news about this incident, unlike most other clips of police traffic stops that go viral, is that no one dies. In fact, no one was arrested: Caron Nazario, the officer who was pulled over and then pepper-sprayed, was let go at the scene. The video is circulating because Nazario filed a lawsuit in Virginia this week accusing the two officers of having violated his constitutional rights by treating him the way they did. I watched it before I read up on what happened and was struck by how aggro the cops were from the start. What could Nazario have done behind the wheel to freak them out so much that they had guns drawn when he pulled over? He’s so calm when he finally speaks with them that he seems almost sedate.

But there’s a reason for that, it turns out, and it’s not that Nazario is preternaturally chill. He’s clearly scared out of his wits that one of these amped-up cops is going to flinch and blow him away by misinterpreting something he’s doing as threatening. It’s happened before, as I’m sure he’s aware. Let’s pause here so you can watch the clip. The first 90 seconds are just footage from inside the police cruiser while they’re in pursuit; the encounter begins at around 1:30.

...Sounds like they thought they were in pursuit of a stolen vehicle. A car thief in a situation like that, on the brink of being caught, might panic at the prospect and do something desperate to try to evade arrest.

There are problems with that explanation, though. First, according to the lawsuit, Nazario’s car didn’t lack rear plates. It was a new car and had a temporary plate taped to the back window, which the cops should have been able to see as they got closer. Nazario wasn’t really "eluding" police either. Crocker’s own report admitted that he was traveling at low speed; this wasn’t a chase at 100 mph with the driver frantically trying to outrace police. The reason Nazario didn’t pull over immediately, it seems, is that he didn’t want his encounter with the cops to happen on a poorly lit roadside — a not uncommon response according to one of the cops involved:

...Some cohort of people believes that when a police officer gives you an order, reasonable or not, you obey that order and if you don’t then anything that happens to you is your own fault.
That was my expression when I lived in USA (well, New Mexico actually, but it's almost the same. 😊

#2  ...Well, one bit of good news is that one of the POs has been fired, but with this statement:

"The Town of Windsor prides itself in its small-town charm and the community-wide respect of its Police Department," the statement said. "Due to this, we are saddened for events like this to cast our community in a negative light. Rather than deflect criticism, we have addressed these matters with our personnel administratively, we are reaching out to community stakeholders to engage in dialogue, and commit ourselves to additional discussions in the future."

...I'm just going to say this: when you get outside Richmond into southern and western VA, it's a whole lot less cosmopolitan. LT Nazario may well have been simply minding his own business, but there are a lot of cops (and civilians) in that part of Virginia who don't cotton to those uppity outsiders. Make them military, and it's worse.

#6  Too funny, g(r)omgoru! I told Mr. Wife, who also immediately said, “Lost tribe?” which hadn’t at all occurred to me. I just remember sitting in an outdoor café in Baden-Baden, listening to the Israeli tourists chatter at the next table as my Hebrew returned to active memory. We’re everywhere, donchaknow.

Trump rips McConnell at Mar-a-Lago
[Politico] Former President Donald Trump ripped into Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell before a Republican National Committee donor retreat Saturday evening, deriding him as a "dumb son of a bitch."

Trump veered off his prepared text during a roughly 50-minute speech before several hundred well-heeled GOP donors at his Mar-a-Lago resort in South Florida, saying that he was "disappointed" in former Vice President Mike Pence, calling last year's presidential election election a "fraud" and mocking Dr. Anthony Fauci.

The former president spent several minutes tearing into McConnell, saying that he didn’t do enough to defend him during the February impeachment trial. At one point, three people familiar with the remarks said, Trump called the Senate GOP leader a "dumb son of a bitch."

Trump also went after McConnell’s wife, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, for resigning her cabinet post after the Jan. 6 insurrection.

Ohio Senate candidate Josh Mandel escorted out of RNC retreat
[Axios via Yahoo (yeah, I know...)] During this weekend’s highly anticipated donor retreat hosted by the Republican National Committee in Palm Beach, Ohio Senate candidate Josh Mandel was escorted off the premises while his primary opponent, Jane Timken, was allowed to stay, two sources with direct knowledge of the situation tell Axios.

What we’re hearing: The invitation-only event is taking place at the Four Seasons Resort, and the RNC reserved the entire hotel. While Timken, former Ohio GOP chair, was invited to the event "because she is a major donor" — Mandel was not, so he was asked to leave, according to one of the sources.

Despite not having his name on the list, Mandel seized on the opportunity to get some face time with top Republican donors while they all were in one place, one source familiar with his plans told Axios.

But when the first event formally kicked off at the hotel Friday night, Mandel and others who did not have credentials were asked to leave.

A spokesperson for the RNC declined to comment. Mandel's team did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Between the lines: Those attending the retreat not only have access to big donors, but also key party players, including former President Trump.

Saturday evening, the group will travel to Mar-a-Lago, where Trump is expected to deliver remarks and mingle with attendees.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a potential 2024 presidential contender, will also speak.

Why it matters: The incident gives Timken more visibility and access to Trump, which is crucial as he continues to be the party’s rainmaker and most influential player.

It also underscores how Trump’s efforts to continue leading the GOP have made all interactions with donors high-stakes.

Background: Trump previously showed interest in endorsing Timken, but was ultimately talked out of it by his son, Donald Trump Jr., and other top advisers.

Mandel and Timken have long been extremely pro-Trump and both are vying to get the former president's endorsement — which could be the deciding factor in who wins the race to replace Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio), who recently announce he will not run for reelection.

Tested and Tricked Out: The SAR 109T 9MM Subgun
[Guns America Digest] The submachine gun is a fascinating firearm. Introduced to the world by Hugo Schmeisser in 1918 as the MP18 and chambered in 9MM, the submachine gun was built as a close to medium-range firearm able to put a good number of pistol-caliber rounds on target and fast. The "sub" in submachine gun refers to that pistol caliber chambering, and of course, the full-auto nature of the firearm labels as "machine gun."

In the last 103 years, the submachine gun has seen all sorts of technological advances. But the reality for the American gun owner? Acquiring a full-auto version of this firearm will be damned expensive. For most of us, prohibitively expensive.

Another option for those who like the look and feel of the submachine gun is a semi-automatic version, like the 109T 9mm Subgun produced by Turkish gun manufacturer Sarsilmaz (SAR) and imported into this country by SAR USA.

The 109T Subgun is SAR’s semi-auto version of their full-auto gun used by police in various foreign nations. Yes, it looks like an AR Pistol—complete with AR-style controls, a rail atop the receiver, and an AR-looking handguard—and one might assume it is gas-operated.
