San Francisco: A String Of Drug Stores Close After Shoplifters Strip The Shelves Bare
[HOTAIR] This week the the Socialist paradise of San Francisco
...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964...
Chronicle reported on the seventh Walgreens drug store to announce it is closing in the city since last year. The problem is a wave of shoplifting from retail locations that can add up to millions of dollars in lost merchandise:

The drugstore, which serves many older people who live in the Opera Plaza area, is the seventh Walgreens to close in the city since 2019.

"All of us knew it was coming. Whenever we go in there, they always have problems with shoplifters, " said longtime customer Sebastian Luke, who lives a block away and is a frequent customer who has been posting photos of the thefts for months. The other day, Luke photographed a man casually clearing a couple of shelves and placing the goods into a backpack...

A recent trip to the store revealed aisle after aisle of empty or near-empty shelves. Beauty supplies appear to be a favored target...

When a clerk was asked where all the goods had gone, he said, "Go ask the people in the alleys, they have it all."...

No sooner had the clerk spoken than a man wearing a virus mask walked in, emptied two shelves of snacks into a bag, then headed back for the door.

As he walked past the checkout line, a customer called out, "Sure you don’t want a drink with that?"

The Walgreens clerks can’t do anything about the theft because the company has a policy preventing them from interfering in shoplifting. Allegedly this is for their safety but I suspect it’s really because if they didn’t have this policy and anyone got hurt, they would be sued.

Obit for Len Greendorfer Asks Jews to Vote for Trump
[Jweekly] Leonard Louis Greendorfer passed away peacefully on October 11, 2020, at age 92, leaving this earth to join the souls of his loved ones on the joyous Simchat Torah holiday. Len was raised in the Richmond District of his beloved San Francisco and spent much of his young life working at the family's used furniture business on McAllister Street. When San Francisco razed the traditionally Jewish neighborhood of the Fillmore District...

Without pulling punches, Len had disdain for the dramatic changes taking place in local politics and religion. After a brief experiment with a Reform temple, Len and Hannah found a new religious home, as well as a physical home, when they left Daly City to move to Pleasanton... As proud as he was of the accomplishments of his people in Israel, he was just as shamed at the conduct of progressives who abandoned the Jewish faith for the religion of the Democratic Party. The highlight of recent years for Len was President Trump’s courageous and unprecedent support of Israel and the President's strong actions to confront progressive anti-Semitism in the United States.

Philander Rodman Jr., Father of Dennis Rodman and 28 Filipino Half-Siblings, RIP
[UNZ] From ESPN, the sad news that key Trump Administration North Korean diplomat Dennis Rodman’s father has died:

Philander Rodman Jr., father of Dennis Rodman, dies at 79

Philander Rodman Jr. died in Angeles City, Pampanga [near Manila in the Philippines] on July 14. He was 79. Jasmine Rodman, his granddaughter, made the announcement on her Facebook page. Philander Rodman Jr. is the father of Basketball Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman,

Philander Rodman Jr. stayed in the Philippines since coming as a member of the U.S. Air Force in the 1970s and had been estranged from his son for 42 years.

He established the Rodman’s Rainbow Obamaburger joint in the former U.S. military base, featuring burgers with red, yellow, and green colored buns and fries, colors his son used for his hair during his championship runs with the Chicago Bulls.

Philander and Dennis met after an exhibition game at the Mall of Asia Arena in 2012. The elder Rodman, who has acknowledged being a father to 29 offsprings by 16 mothers, first tried to meet his son in the Philippines in another game in 2006.

I’ve always imagined that Philander Rodman Sr. probably had quite a life story, too.

Macy's Cancels Santa Claus
[DAILYWIRE] Macy’s canceled their nearly 160-year-old tradition of hosting Santa Claus in their midtown Manhattan store because of COVID-19.More than a quarter of a million people typically shuffle through the store’s elaborate Santaland each Christmas season, but the close quarters of the attraction have rendered it impossible in the age of social distancing, according to The News Agency that Dare Not be Named.

Santa will also not be appearing in the Macy’s in reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
...home of Al Capone, the Chicago Black Sox, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel...
or the Socialist paradise of San Francisco
...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964...
, though he will be making an appearance at the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, which has also had to undergo adjustments to comply with health guidelines.

Macy’s is offering a virtual Santaland experience on its website, however. "Moving to a virtual engagement will safely bring the magic of Santa Claus to children of all ages this year," Macy’s told the AP.

Many big malls are keeping their Santa displays, the AP reported, but children will be forced to maintain a six-foot distance from him.

Santa Claus is not the only holiday tradition to have been upended by the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
pandemic. Halloween has also been spoiled in places such as Beverly Hills, which has banned trick-or-treating, trunk-or-treating, and giving candy to anyone outside of one’s family.

Anti-lockdown protesters smash police cars in Naples after new Covid-19 restrictions announced
[RT] Protesters defied curfew and attacked police vehicles in Italy’s third-largest city of Naples. The anger was sparked by the governor’s call for a new lockdown after the spread of Covid-19 hit a new daily record.

Chanting "Freedom!" the angry crowds marched through the city streets on Friday night, with some hurling bottles, smoke bombs and other projectiles at the officers. Others attempted to erect barricades using garbage containers and set some of them on fire. Police deployed tear gas as they tried to disperse the rioters.

Videos posted on social media show groups of people attacking police vehicles, forcing the officers to leave the scene.

Violence in Napoli, Italy as people take to the streets after a new lockdown is announced. People have had enough of being muzzled and caged. Unsurprisingly. pic.twitter.com/UIZKbAZ4pW
— Jim Osman (@EdgeCGroup) October 24, 2020

The mass protests in Naples and the port town of Salerno took place despite the nighttime curfew which was imposed by the regional governor and began on Friday. Residents of the southern Campania region were ordered to stay home from 11pm to 5am until November 13....

The public was further outraged when Governor Vincenzo De Luca announced on Friday that an "immediate" lockdown for up to 40 days was essential to stop the spread of the coronavirus."The current data on the infection rate suggests that any type of partial measures is ineffective," he said, explaining that it was vital to close down "everything," except for businesses providing essential services, and to block movement between the regions.

"I don’t want to see a motorcade of trucks filled with coffins," De Luca said, alluding to the eerie images of a fleet of army trucks transporting coffins out of the northern town of Bergamo, which was Italy’s worst-hit place during the peak of the outbreak in March....

Italy was the first country in the world to introduce a strict nationwide lockdown, on March 9, after the virus quickly overwhelmed the healthcare system in the northern Lombardy region. The government eventually began to gradually ease the restrictions while the situation improved. However, the authorities were forced to re-impose tougher measures against Covid-19 as many European nations recorded spikes in coronavirus cases in the recent months....

#2  Yea, except the drop is traced to enforcing masking/distancing regulations - not viral evolution.

#3  Same thing is happening in parts of the US where the number of infections keep going up but the lethality of the disease keeps going down.

The cause of this phenomenon is unknown. Viral evolution has been proposed as has been the theory that dose response is a factor, that is, if you get only a small hit of the virus because the carrier was distanced, your own immune system has a better chance. Also proposed is more people taking D vitamins. Other theories as well.

When this disease began I followed reports thinking I could understand what was going on.

My bad.

#28  Viral evolution is the truth g(r)omgoru

(whatever that name means, is the (r) for resentful? repugnant? rigid? reprehensible? or perhaps more simply "ridiculous").

Here is the science you seem unable to grasp:

Mutations are especially prevalent in single strand RNA based viruses, like SARS-CoV-2. In things like this, evolution favors a virus that can spread more easily and survives to spread longer - basically they become more contagious and less deadly as time goes on and mutations occur that are naturally selected for by survival of the host.

Its called Mueller's Ratchet. Multiple strains of SARS-VoC2 (mutations) showed up months ago in the US. It appears the dominant ones showed up in the big burst in Houston back in May-June, and happened to be more contagious and less deadly, as predicted by the above.

“A summary of the data thus far suggests that this strain has gained a fitness advantage over the original and is more transmissible as a result,” said Joseph Petrosino, Baylor College of Medicine chair of molecular virology and microbiology. “It is safe to say this version is more infectious.” He said Baylor is finding the mutated strain in as many as 80 percent of viruses it analyzes.

“There were clearly mutations in the virus, some of which need to be followed very carefully in future,” said Musser. “Some mutations may well represent beginnings of new virus families that could cause differences in severity or an ability to elude the immune system.”

Here's some science for you, you poor deluded fool, to demonstrate that it IS mutation that's driving the infections:

A SARS-CoV-2 variant with Spike G614 has replaced D614 as the dominant pandemic form. The consistent increase of G614 at regional levels may indicate a fitness advantage. The shift occurred even in local epidemics where the original D614 form was well established prior to introduction of the G614 variant. In infected individuals, G614 is associated with lower RT-PCR cycle thresholds, suggestive of higher upper respiratory tract viral loads, but not with increased disease severity.

#29  Theager Borgia1057 (TB? LOL):

Thanks for the academic link. I may find that useful. Rantburg-U lives on!

BTW, re: that name:

Just so ya know, rougarou (or roo-garoo) is a Acadian (Cajun) name for a human body wolf-head creature that haunts the swamps at night in Acadia and New Orleans and the parishes around those parts. So maybe he thinks he is a werewolf? Seen them as costumes during the Mardis Gras decades ago, so Im not so sure if they are even told of much anymore. I'm old.

Per Wikipedia "garou" is "餓狼" in Japanese, and is the name of the antagonist in One Punch Man anime comic book; his mission is to seek out and beat up all heroes. Maybe thats it?

So who really knows?

But as far as I can tell, the initial "g" in g(r)omgarou is the important letter. Its "g" for gullible. Don't bother him with science, he's on a religious crusade of some sort with this stuff.

Happy Halloween y'all.

Oh, and from this former Anti-Trumper: Vote Trump. Yeah I was wrong, and owned up to it a long time ago. I made the error of paying too much attention to his loudmouthed nature. His deeds are pretty impressive in retrospect, especially in context of all the obstacles thrown at him and an internal coup attempt, as well as a pandemic. Deeds not words. Judge Biden the same way and he comes up lacking massively.

They are a closed society which will fight tooth and nail to control their vast empire.

They are feces disturbers and misery merchants on a global scale. They are the plank holders of the Deep State.

Please pray for the Orange Man, that he might prevail and bring and end to this big government malignancy.

#9  Regardless of the election out ome, history (assuming western civilization survives in some corm) will see Trump’s administration as the besieged presidency. That he has grown into the office and has become increasingly effective and popular is a testimony to his determination and force of character. God willing he is re-elected there will be a deep reckoning with the deep state, the MSM and the tech oligarchs. Oh and China will increasingly go broke and isolated.

#2  There have been several others as well. Science fact: Unless you are wearing an N95 mask, the masks are not filtering much anything of particles the size of the aerosolized virus, only the large particles. And if you are wearing a fabric mask, or a bandana, they are filtering even less. Therefore: ineffective.

Real-time pandemic data paints a vivid picture of the relationship between mask-wearing and the prevalence of covid-19 symptoms

#4  CDC, Oct 12:

A Centers for Disease Control report released in September shows that masks and face coverings are not effective in preventing the spread of COVID-19, even for those people who consistently wear them.

“In the 14 days before illness onset, 71% of case-patients ... reported always using cloth face coverings or other mask types when in public”

Over 70 percent of the case-patients were contaminated with the virus and fell ill despite “always” wearing a mask.

In addition, over 14 percent of the case-patients said they “often” wore a face covering and were still infected with the virus.

“Characterization of community exposures can be difficult to assess when widespread transmission is occurring, especially from asymptomatic persons within inherently interconnected communities,”

“direction, ventilation, and intensity of airflow might affect virus transmission, even if social distancing measures and mask use are implemented according to current guidance.”

Hate to disappoint you but Rantburg isn't Twitter, and this CDC study will not be censored forever.

#5  gromgoo, acquired immunity does exist, and happens routinely for all coronaviruses. Thats why despite the cold virus comeing and mutating every year, nobody ever dies from it. We develop acquired immunity, and it gets less effective over time, so a virus may surface years later, but most will still have some amount of T-cell mediated immunity, as well as a limited amount of cross-immunity from other coronavirus variants. Herd immunity can and will exist, but will be short lived.

Where did you get your medical degree, out of a cereal box? Fearmonger is what you are, so frightened of the world. Why not just hole up and cower from the world? Seems to be your gutless nature.

#9  In retrospect, "covid-sceptics" passion is perfect understandable: Politics key to views on COVID-19 in U.S., poll shows . So, basically, they're not trying to arrive at a better picture of reality through debate - they are bashing ideological enemies with whatever comes to hand: no matter how childish ill-bred their arguments (not all covid-skeptics: Clem, P2k) may appear to a disinterested observer.
Now I admit, masks ARE the means to brainwash the free American people to obedience. Once mask-wearing becomes the norm, we (the galactic slavers) will be able to convince the American People that drugging boys with Ritalin (for being bad girls) is perfectly OK. Whence we will be able to proceed to wide ranging discrimination in educational and employment opportunities - by calling them "affirmative action". Since, despite affirmative action, equality of outcomes will not be observed - we will be able to introduce the notion of "systemic racism". And I didn't even mention gender fluidity yet.
All of these, highly desirable from the point of view of freedom hating furriners such as myself, will become reality - rather than the current fantasy - once we train the freedom loving Americans to wear masks in public buildings/transportation.

#13  The Washington Post graph is garbage.

Other than New York finishing in the top 5, one person getting sick in ND is a different percentage of the state population than in CA.

Agriculture states like ND or WY or KS, we consider our neighbors in a 50 mile radius, or we know the person who knows the person who knows the exposed person living on the interstate.

Everyone in my county knows the (very very few) people who have tested for exposure recently. And the county over. And the county over.

Any mask, even the 95, which relies on earhooks to stay in place is flawed and breaks seal everytime the user talks, or chews, or pops their eardrums, yawns, oven even opens their mouth to increase the amount of air flow as intake is now cluttered.

The exhale air has to go somewhere so it blows out the seal break.

g(r)om, as an ex-smoker you should know all this.

Those longer, deeper inhales pull any garbage in the air further into the lungs.

#14  My former GP (we lost him when Obamacare changed everything; but I passed him on to my mother, so we still keep in touch), who used to be president of the Ohio medical association and is engaged each year to speak at the national epidemiology association convention in DC, has gone all in on those clear plastic health shields rather than face masks. He presents a comparison of effectiveness here — he addresses your mask-wearing concerns directly, swksvolFF.

For the science-curious, he provides a link in the right margin to a page with journal references supporting his claims.

I'm not an ex-smoker. I just roll my own.

Mask doesn't have to be hermetic to protect you. It's enough that it filters some of the virus - because dose appears to be important.See
COVID-19: Does the Infectious Inoculum Dose-Response Relationship Contribute to Understanding Heterogeneity in Disease Severity and Transmission Dynamics?

The population level effect - such as observed in Israel in the last month (decreasing the infection rate by a factor of magnitude) - derives by decreasing the chances of infection for each mask wearer. Finally, a mask can stop 90% of the viruses that somebody who's infected - but doesn't know it yet, exhales.

TW. A face shield provides more protection than a mask, but doesn't prevent spreading as well as a mask - ask your GP.

#17  I'm not going to be "trained" to wear a mask, nor will stop giving people who work at public places a hard time when they ask me to put one on. I'm responsible for my own safety, not them. I'm an American, I have rights, and I understand personal responsibility.

#20  I'm not an ex-smoker. I just roll my own.

Understood. OTC cigs are absolute garbage.

Thank you for the link TW, though leery of sales pitches I have to agree. Why some sectors such as dentist assistant teeth cleaners have not been doing this, well.

My approach is an application of masks, opposed to theory. The part about which is face touching, the eye rubbing and nose picking, was worked out of me in the food industry and home cooking experience. Those who work with onions and peppers know exactly what I'm talking about.

The short shallow breath I've found is the best defense against fire smoke, though that is tough under physical exertion, is the best short of face shield with positive pressure air. The mask was good for stopping the fire embers from going into the respiratory system but still was breathed in as it worked through the fibers of the mask. What I would cough out pales in comparison to what the mask caught even if the hood was wetted.

Yeah, that chart, what does that mean Know Somebody. Tom Hanks says he had it, does that count? Is that one, two, three degrees of separation of Kevin Bacon game?

#21  Yah, I got my lungs damaged by white phosphorous, and maybe something else. When I couldn't catch a breathe, the doctors told me to 'pant like a dog, short shallow breaths, rapidly'. It did help. Doesn't cure the basic problems, though. These damned masks they have us wearing are killing me slowly.
